A Day in the Life at Grateful Minds Recovery Community
Mornings at Grateful Minds Recovery Community begin with stillness and intention. If you’re up early, you might join me (John) in my favorite spot, watching the sun rise over the mountains, sipping tea or coffee from our neighbor’s farm. It’s a sacred time to be present—whether in prayer, meditation, journaling, or simply breathing in the quiet before the day begins.
Each person’s journey here is unique, but the rhythm of our days is built around recovery, movement, work, nature, and connection.
Morning Flow
A hearty breakfast starts the day—fresh eggs, tropical fruit, homemade bread, and smoothies sourced from our farm and local neighbors. We gather not just to eat, but to ground ourselves in morning meditation and mindful conversationbefore stepping into the day.
Then, we make space for recovery work—whether that’s diving into the Big Book, the 12 & 12, or other spiritual readings, sharing reflections, or working with sponsors and outside therapists. Your personal recovery is yours to own, and we fully support your work with your outside support team (therapists, mentors, sponsors, or loved ones).
Purposeful Work & Movement
The late morning often includes a work project on the farm—always something meaningful to do, whether planting, watering, building, or simply supporting the land that supports us. These projects are not just about labor, but about feeling good, giving back, and growing something tangible.
Then, we break for lunch, a time for nourishment and gratitude, sharing our experiences and reflections with the group.
Afternoon Reset & Growth
Afternoons bring a balance of movement, stillness, and self-discovery:
The jungle gym (most days) to rebuild physical strength and discipline.
Yoga, breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness practices sprinkled throughout the week to support healing.
Hiking through the jungle or simply sitting in silence, soaking in nature’s wisdom.
For those looking for personal or professional growth, I (John) offer career coaching—helping you map out next steps in life, whether it’s a job, a business, or simply figuring out what’s next.
Adventures, Recovery, & Connection
Some days take us off the farm—we head out for:
Surf class on the coast, where the waves remind us to surrender and flow.
Days at the beach, a time to relax, swim, and reconnect with the vastness of the ocean.
Sweat lodge ceremonies, offering deep purification and renewal.
Recovery meetings, because staying connected to the broader recovery community is vital.
Evenings: Reflection & Firelight
As the sun sets, we gather for supper, sharing laughter, reflections, and the simple joy of a well-lived day.
Nights often bring us together around the firepit for drum circles, storytelling, music, or quiet reflection. These moments are where real connections happen—where we feel seen, heard, and part of something greater.
The Bigger Picture
At Grateful Minds Recovery Community, we don’t just recover—we rebuild, rediscover, and reconnect. Each day is an opportunity to grow, heal, and create—whether it’s through recovery work, service, movement, or simply sitting in stillness with the land.
We are here to support each other, honor the process, and walk this path together—one sunrise, one breath, one step at a time.
